Default '49 Merc Tranny

I would like to put a 351 Windsor in my '49 Merc. Is there an adaptor plate to hook this engine to the '49 tranny? if so, where?

If your transmission is the stock one it is the same bolt pattern as the '48 and earlier Fords and there is an adaptor available or was, but I don't have my books here to look it up. Check Dale Wilch's site he did have one on there for sale. However, if you switch to a '50-53 type you can drill the 351 bellhousing and just bolt it up. Really you could go to any of the later Ford column shift 3 speeds even up into the '70's.
