Default opinion on Rad filters

I just had my Rad cleaned out and am soaking the block in Evapocool. Here is what I am thinking about:

Reassemble and fill up the system with a Nylon sock in the upper hose to catch any large loose chunks. Then replace it with one of the GANO filters to catch smaller items. Sound reasonable or should I just put a GANO Filter in and monitor? The picture I saw had some pretty large chunks in the upper tank.
