Loadomatic Dizzy with Edelbrock Carb
I have a rebuilt stock yblock in a 57 country sedan wagon. I'll be putting in a ford 4 barrel intake (ECZ-9425-B) along with a 1403 Edelbrock carb with electric choke. I purchased a CRT Pro Series electronic distributor but quickly found out that the body of the dizzy is too wide and is up against the firewall preventing me from putting the cap on.
I've decided to go with a PerTronix setup but I'm wondering if I can use the loadomatic dizzy or is that not compatible with the 1403 Edelbrock because the dizzy is vacuum only? Or should I rebuild my 57 dizzy with the PerTronix so I have both vacuum and mechanical? Thanks for the help! |

Re: Loadomatic Dizzy with Edelbrock Carb
The Load-O-Matic dizzy won't play well with any carb except the Holley teapot of the type the car came with from the factory. I would rebuild the '57 dizzy, can't go wrong with it.

Re: Loadomatic Dizzy with Edelbrock Carb
If your distributor is from 1957, it isn't a Loadomatic and should have centrifugal and vacuum advance and will work fine with the Edelbrock carb.
If it's actually a Loadomatic distributor you have, it won't work properly with the Edelbrock carb. Will over advance, and strong chance of spark knock. Loadomatic distributors are made to see a max of 4" on vacuum to the diaphragm. The Edelbrock carb will have at least 4 times that amount of vacuum when cruising at a steady speed. Sal |
