I always rebuild my pumps exactly as original, except for adding the rear bushing with a seal in the REAR of the bushing. Always use lead packing rings in the packing nut and put grease around the lead rings, or you'll have coolant drips. Unscrew the packing nut when you grease the rear bushing, so you don't put pressure on the rear seal. or pump grease into the coolant.

Buy the kit with the Staiinless steel shaft!! They don't wear out like the mild steel ones .I like to buy the extra long one as you can grind the end to take up the wear in the cylinder head.

See reply #16 in the thread to see my water pump I changed the rear bushing to a bushing with a seal. I prefer the locking collar to the end of the shaft for controlling freeplay. When using the locking collar, one pump fits any engine.
