Default Holly 94 carburetors new information

I’ve been rebuilding carburetors most of my adult life. I’m not going to claim that I’m an expert. However my carb’s work well and run very good. Over the past few years I rebuilt several Holly 94s and had nothing but problems, running rich , flooding over. I purchased kits from my regular old Ford suppliers , thinking I was getting good parts. They outwardly looked good, however they were not doing the job well. The power valves failed terribly and the needle valves did not seal. Causing running rich and leaking even at two lbs of file pressure. I have two flatheads running duel carbs both hopped up 59a engines. I tried several kits , rechecked my work but still had the same problems. I contacted our friend Charlie Schwendler he suggested trying Datona part’s in Florida. I called ordered six kits as I had a single 94 for a 8BA to do for a friend and four for me. Charlie said there the only ones that have the correct style power valves. He recommended 3.5 for duels but the closest they had were 5.5. For duels and 7.5 for the single. They also put their kits together with new style float valves with modern rubber a completely new design. I am posting photos for those that are interested. The power valve on the left is the Datona correct style and the one to the right is brand x that doesn’t work or seal properly. After redoing all five carburetors with the correct parts all three engines are purring nicely. I was beyond frustrated and to the point where I thought I had lost my talent. Thanks to Charlie and Daytona parts I’m back on the road and very pleased with the results I’m only posting this with the hope that it may help someone in the future I don’t get any Commission from Dantona parts company or Charlie lol but my quest to make these vehicles run properly was over a period of a year and caused me great frustration.

I buy all my carb kits from Daytona Parts. Have for the last 20 or so years.

I have used their kits without any problems but I do like the original style input valves with steel needles.

I like their needle/seat setup.
Power valves are a nightmare. I need a better fixture to test.... too much el mickey mo with the mityvac fitting but I have received brand new PV's that were leakers.

Where did you get the power valves that were leakers? The ones I have gotten from Datona have been good. I have five carburetors with them so far without any problems.

Where do you think?

That said, like I mentioned, I need to get a better testing jig than that POS
that mityvac includes in their kit for testing power valves.
I'm pretty sure that I finally got a seal on the base of the valve and it
did leak vacuum. That's the valve I took out of the carb, which was from
them. I also bought a complete new kit from them when H&H told me my
carb was jacked up, when they rebuilt the engine. That was the occasion
of me finding out that the replacement PV also had an issue.....

I've got a new Edelbrock 94 on it now. No issues.
