39 rear shocks problem

installed my rebuilt rear shocks on my deluxe tudor and cannot get the links to fit. i had removed shocks many years ago and dont have the orriginal links. new links are 3" long and are too short to connect to shock which is at the end of its travel. first, are the 3" links correct for rear of 39? second, what should the shock arms measure and how are they removed? if anyone can post a picture of correct setup it would be great. thanks, mark
