Trip to Bert's
My wife and I had a wonderful long weekend in Denver. First time there since 1977! One thing I had to do was to go to Bert's. I was not let down. What a wonderful place to just spend an hour walking around and looking at all they have. Here is a shot of one of about three racks full of blocks. I think that we have hope with all the NOS stuff that they have there.
Engine Blocks Small.jpg Also I am ashamed I can't remember his name, but the man who does the engine rebuilds, took me aside and gave me a primer on insert bearings vs. original babit for about 10 minutes. What a nice guy to take that much time with me for a teaching moment. If you ever go to Denver you must take the time to go through that place! |

Re: Trip to Bert's
That might have been Dan, he spent some time on the phone with me concerning fiber vs aluminum timing gears..and he never sounded rushed, though I'm sure he was busy...

Re: Trip to Bert's
Bert's is a top of the line place to buyMod.A stuff! I've been there twice while visiting my daughter in Denver. Last year I missed him completely! I drove over there three times and I just hit it right, They were closed each time! I plan on another trip very soon and I will be visiting him again.

Re: Trip to Bert's
Visiting Bert's is always a worth while stop. Hoping out plane lands in Denver early enough of on the 30th of Oct. to make it there before they close. Since my sister booked the trip I can not remember the ETA, but will bump it up if I can without spending a small fortune. Since we are flying out of Denver early Monday afternoon I will miss them on that end as they are closed and we will be a little rushed. Rod

Re: Trip to Bert's
Bert's is my 1st choice in parts vendors.
But I hesitate to visit there...have you ever seen a kid in a candy store...with a check book?

Re: Trip to Bert's
If you are looking at hand picking the original parts you need this is the best choice other than swapmeets. Since there are a few parts I would like to hand pick I will do my best to stop by. They are also my first choice for repop parts as they offer the highest quality available and I am picky about what I wish to contend with. Rod

Re: Trip to Bert's
On one of our Summer Tours we brought the tour to Berts. Steve was kind enough to open up on a Sunday since that was when we were going to be in town. Great vendor, like was said lots of NOS and original stuff. Great stop if you are passing through Denver.

Re: Trip to Bert's
Good luck with that! It's a long ride from Denver airport to the city and then finding your way to Oak st (I believe thats the name of the street).

Re: Trip to Bert's
Looks like we land at 1:15 pm, so no rush hour trafic. Been there several times. Guessing about 2:45 by the time we get there if all goes near perfect. Will be digging for a couple of nice original mirrors for the delivery and a dome light switch. Rod

Re: Trip to Bert's
You will be driving right past me if taking I-80. All I can say about making it to Bert's is if I don't make it, it wont be for lack of trying. Since I no longer get notice of the All Ford Day that used to be held at the MHKC I do not know when I will have a good excuse to go to Denver next. All of my relatives there have passed on. Rod

Re: Trip to Bert's
Rich,
I believe the gentleman in the engine department is Dan Lander. If anyone would like to see more pics from Bert's, taken during my epic trip driving my '30 Tudor from McMinnville, OR, to Norcross, GA, last Oct-Nov, here's a link to a post on my hobby website: Bert's Model A Center, part 1

Re: Trip to Bert's
Rowdy, this year, with gas being so cheap, I'm going through Michigan, across the Mackinac bridge, to the U.P.on through Wisconsin, Minnesota and down I 25 through the Dakotas to Denver. We're delivering some furniture to my daughter. Have you been to the MHFM? I don't know the MHKC (MILE HIGH KAR CLUB?) Every thing in Denver is the Mile High this or that. MHFM is the Mile High Flea Market.A great place!

Re: Trip to Bert's
Mile High Kenel Club. The Flathead Club used to host an All Ford Day there every year in June. I was there several times 20+ years ago when I was in the loop as far as car events in Denver. It was always a good time. After my cousin passed away I no longer hear about such events, so never know what day to take off work for them. Rod
