It looks like someone installed the later TALL water outlet on the head.

All I can think of for the box is a relay for the headlights and/or horn. At first it looked like a voltage regulator, but the generator and cutout are connected as original. The cutout is simply an aftermarket rectangular one.

They used the box as a relay when adapting to sealed beam lights, cause the sealed beams use more power then the old bulbs. Generally the wiring was heaver from the relay to the sealed beams, and the old light sw turned on the relay. The box was also fed right from the battery with heaver wire.

The box by the light switch is a light relay ( so the light switches closes the relay and the relay has the current for the lights running through its contacts rather than the switch). I would guess that is a voltage regulator rather than a cutout mounted on the generator.

the box on the gen is a voltage regulator, which is better than the cut out it makes the gen work more like and altinator and it easier on the battery

Not on this one.
This is simply an aftermarket cutout with no field control wire. Notice the single wire coming out of the generator is the output post, which goes into the cutout, and then out to the terminal box.

I pulled the pan, head, and valve cover plate today. It seems I have lucked-out with this motor. It is as clean as a pin. Must have been just rebuilt before it was stored in 1976. The oil was clean - no sludge. I pulled the stater and checked it while I was at it. I'll get it back together over the weekend and hopefully it will run as good as it looks.
The engine # does not match the title. Engine # A2546224 - what year car would this be for?
