Alternator replacement
Fellas, purchased a recently rebuilt converted 12 Volt flathead generator a few years ago that came with what appears to be a stamped steel smooth pulley. I have a cast iron fan mounted (G420) pulley that I'd like to put on this generator and use this set up to replace the G.M. alternator conversion currently on my 1934 Ford with 46 flathead. To my knowledge power Master has yet to offer a fan mounted alternator and does not recommend mounting a fan to their current offerings? Any of you guys attempted a similar application? Thanks guys!

Re: Alternator replacement
There were several different pulleys used. What is the shaft you wish to use, threaded, or keyed ?

Re: Alternator replacement
Powermaster did recently come out with a pulley mounted fan version but it's not cheap. I happen to have the brochure sitting right here next to me. I picked it up at the Grand National Roadster Show back in January. If I remember right, they were over $700.00

Re: Alternator replacement
$700 - wow!
A properly rebuilt original generator will probably outlast you, and be 1/3 the cost. |

Re: Alternator replacement
I've had the Whitney product on my 32 for the last 7 or so years - has worked flawlessly.

Re: Alternator replacement
I read the fan mounted generator pulley (G420) was not produced by Ford? May have an aftermarket part produced to allow the use of latter generator on a earlier fan mounted generator application? Can anyone confirm? Thanks fellas!

Re: Alternator replacement
Burly,
The "G420" pulley is an aftermarket item. It is intended to convert a two brush 40 - 48 generator to a fan drive to replace an earlier three-brush generator. Key difference: the G420 has a threaded bore rather than a keyed bore like a three-brush.

Re: Alternator replacement
Final question, do these pulleys require a washer and nut?
