Default Carburettor Icing up

I have a downdraft carburettor on my A. I drove it today and it ran like a pig. I suspect I had ice in the carby. The solution to this is to use warm air, probably from near the exhaust manifold. The problem with that is getting it into the air cleaner. I use one that has a paper element 160 mm diameter (6 1/4 "). I thought about a tube from the manifold to the air cleaner but there is no way of attaching the tube at the top end unless there is an air cleaner body about that size that will accept such a tube/hose.
One of those trumpet shaped heater thingummies you guys in the US use would be a good start at the lower end but they can't be used here because they block off the rod to the distributor to adjust the timing.
I'm open to all ideas and advice.
Thanks in advance.

Since you're not original anyway, scout the salvage yards for a late model with a one barrel carb. It should have an air filter with the necessary plumbing to bring hot air to the carb. Just find one easy to adapt.

Good idea, Tom. I'll do that. I was hoping someone would have travelled this road before me and have an answer. I should have mentioned that the carb top is 58mm diameter (1 1/4+")
