Only if you swap the engines into the same car for each test. Cheating the aero is a big part of it.
A car cruising at 50 mph may require only 10 horsepower to overcome aerodynamic drag, but that same car at 100 mph requires 80 hp. With a doubling of speed the drag quadruples. A car has a lower drag coefficient that only takes 8 horsepower to maintain 50 will only need 64 ponies to run 100. |

The only performance numbers I ever thought to remember were told to me by Cummins engineering in the mid 80's.He said it takes 239 HP to maintain 65 MPH in a cabover truck with a box grossing 80,000,level road,no wind.He said there were variables,different gearing,radial or bias tires,smooth or outside post trailers,air quality,outside temp,etc.But,he also said that was a surprisingly accurate number even with all the variables.Came into my mind probably hundreds of times as I rowed with two sticks behind a 220 Cummins,hoping to hit 60.
