31 Town Sedan Rear Seat Armrest Installation
Would anyone be able to advise me, how the wood armrest is attached to the rear sides of my 31 SW 4D TS?
There are on mark on the armrest, and there are no mounting slots or hole on the sides of the body. HELP!!!! Thanks, |

Re: 31 Town Sedan Rear Seat Armrest Installation
Two thin steel straps go on the backside of the upholstered panel. They are screwed to the arm rest and attach to the d-nuts near the top edge of the steel window riser panel

Re: 31 Town Sedan Rear Seat Armrest Installation
To: TMiller6,
I have a steel window riser panel. Please see the attached two pictures. I can not find any location for the d-nuts near the top edge. There are not any on the panel that I have. Would you be able to help me. Where are the two d-nuts located? Thank you, |

My A does not have a center armrest. I have been told that 31 Slant Windows Town Sedans did not come with center arm rests.

My '31 came with both the side and center seat arm rest, was told that Henry would not waste anything and so he put the '30 seat with the arm rest in some of the early '31's. (to use them up) problem uploading pics, I'll keep trying

Thank you Keith for the picture. It beginning to help. From the picture, it shows the front of the armrest is secured by the metal strap. How is the back of the armrest secured.
Thank you very much for your help. |

Re: 31 Town Sedan Rear Seat Armrest Installation
The rear has a screw that goes thru the back of the regulator plate into the arm rest.

You can see the rear screw hole in pic #1
I have the seat and the regulator plates covered at the moment, but I'll be taking in all apart here in the next week. I'm doing better door panels, the cardboard was just a quick cover Will send some better pics Some of the attached pics are from when I first got the car

It looks like your "third" window also rolls down? Doesn't do that in my '30 Town Sedan. I imagine only in the SWs? FYI, I have been having problems with pictures since the server "upgrade"... Last edited by Y-Blockhead; 03-18-2018 at 03:53 PM. |

Y-Blockhead
I'm thinking if you switched out the '30 quarter plate for the '31 quater plate you could have your windows roll down too. I don't know if that would work, but it seems logical to me. Maybe someone reading this would know if something like that is possible.

Re: 31 Town Sedan Rear Seat Armrest Installation
Good Evening,
I was sitting here and pondering all that I have learned today. I have one thought that I can not answer, would it be possible to remove or loosen the window drive mounting plate and install the armrest on a bench? I would be much easier to attached the rear screw. A second item I am not sure about is, I hand placed the armrest against the plate and it rocks back and forth. Should I add shims behind the armrest to secure it tightly from wobbling back and forth? Thanks, |

Re: 31 Town Sedan Rear Seat Armrest Installation
Keith (or anyone), Like I mentioned, I'm having problems with pictures since the Ford Barn recent "server upgrade". Can you see the "Naked Town Sedan picture more than once?? I'm using both Flickr and my picture album. trying to figure out which works. Thanks

Re: 31 Town Sedan Rear Seat Armrest Installation
John, there is a very good photo of an original 160-B rear seat area, including the armrest, in the "Restoration Guidelines & Judging Standards", 2016 revisions, page 12-3. The vertical leg of the armrest wood form is truly vertical, and parallel to the rear door post. The photo should give you a very good idea about where it is located. It has been over 25 years since I restored one of this body style and I just can't remember exactly how the arm rest is attached to the body.
