Default License plate mount for 32 spreader bar?

Does anyone make a mount that is not billet crap? Looking to put one on my AV8 and don't want to cover up the grill. I'm thinking I could hang it down off the spreader bar.

Look at Neals brackets in the HAMB thread...they are sort of a shortened version of the early '32 brackets, and if you need a head start on making them there are commercially made muffler clamps very like that...also available as parts brackets for motorcycles.
You want to lower the thing greatly, I assume, and something like that could hang the plate overlapping the front bar and as low as you care to go. Anything other than stock will leave you without ready access to the hand crank, but should be readily removable so you don't have to call AAA like a soccer mom when your battery dies.

I welded 2 stainless steel tabs on mine then drilled and tapped.

Nice info from the HAMB, I think I'll do something like that,
Thanks guys!
My AV8 is built more like a early 50's car, so this should fit right in.

I threw this together, so cops don't stop me. Hangs down like you said. Just a piece of 1-5/8" exhaust tubing cut in half lengthwise and welded to a basic license plate bracket. Held on with a hose clamp. Also, the tubing is lined with 1/16" rubber so not to scratch spreader bar. Not pretty. But works. And comes off quickly.

Tony,
That's simple and looks good as well.

I have done it with a piece of ss sheet the size of the plate with a 1.5 inch lip at a 45 degree angle and bolted the plate behind the spreader into the bottom. I've done this on several highboys as Nebraska requires a front plate.

Alaska requires one too, is the spreader heavy enough to drill and tap? Mines aftermarket chrome, so I'm assuming it's very thin.

Originals are quite thick metal, since Ford considered them a structural part of frame. Plenty there to hold a license bolt.
