Brake and Clutch Pedal Bushings
I want to change these and replace the rod they ride on. They are a bit loose and cause a lot of the rattling that goes on under my floorboard. That said, I really don' t feel up to pulling the tranny to get the pin out that holds the rod to the housing. Any suggestions short or redirecting the gardener? I'm thinking of driving it down and hope for the best, with it inside the bell-housing. there is plenty of room if it will behave itself and not get involved with the clutch disc and the pressure plate.

Re: Brake and Clutch Pedal Bushings
You probably will be good by rebushing the pedals.
Trying to replace the shaft in place is impossible, or at least it was for me. Dress down the shaft with emory cloth and fit the new bushings to the shaft. Let me know if you need parts. Good time to even up the pedals. Bob |

Re: Brake and Clutch Pedal Bushings
Thanks Bob. I have the parts, pulled the old shaft this morning, drove the pin inside and just going to fish with a magnet. May have to back the bolts out on the bell housing and do some fishing with a wire, but I'm sure I'll win the freedom of the pin. I froze the new pin and drove it in with a walnut wedge and some strips of hardwood. The hole lined up without any trouble so I drove the pin in to secure the shaft. I'm using a brake tool to ream the bushing and I have the brake pedal really a nice fit, I'm giving it a break now as I'm pooped, but tomorrow is another day. Were I as strong as a couple of years back, I would have just lifted the tranny out. Two shoulder surgeries have convinced me that I need more tools, more thought, and less brute strength, which is beginning to lessen with the fleeting years. Thanks to all who contributed. Every bit helps an old guy.

Re: Brake and Clutch Pedal Bushings
consider pulling the starter to access the bottom of the bell housing, that was mentioned recently to fish out a bolt for the front wishbone ball joint.
Glad you were able to outwit the old cross shaft. I could not. Sounds like you are on the down hill side now. Bob |

Re: Brake and Clutch Pedal Bushings
When I changed the clutch and brake peddle bushings, I drilled and tapped both 1/4 x 28 for grease fittings.
