Question Alodine for carburetor finish?

Has anyone tried using Alodine to get the nice gold tone on their carburetors? It looks like a good durable finish compared to the spray on stuff that melts off with any fuel leak. The only thing I was concerned about was the potential for corrosion but those who have used it don't seem to have had any problems.

I haven't tried it on carb parts. May not get great results because I have heard some are more of a pot metal than aluminum. I believe alodine works best with aluminum.
One tip I can offer though, dipping the part and submurging it entirely for a given period of time works best, but the cost of the solution required to fill a dipping container can be expensive. If you put the item in a zip lock bag then add an ounce or two of alodine, seal up the bag and tip it back and forth to slosh the solution over the part. This helps keep out the oxygen also, and the process seems to work better than out in the open air. It saves wasting alot of alodine and makes for a tidy job.

I'm trying to find a lower cost alternative and faster turn around to finding someone who replates carburetors and other pot metal engine parts. From what I've seen in another forum the appearance of the finish looks good enough for me.
It's a really toxic chemical so proper precautions are a must.

I alodine regularly, I wouldn't call it gold. It is a very good durable finish.

That looks a lot different than some of the finishes I've seen. What Alodine formula are you using?

This is the finish I am looking for.

I believe it is 1201, I get the dry powdered and mix my own batches. I used to get the liquid from sprucegoose (I think, it was an aircraft place) but a coupe years ago I bought about a pound of the powder.
