Default Fuel shut off question

I have a coupe in the shop that is dripping gas from the shutoff very slightly.
In the past six months, we have replaced shut offs in three cars, and they all have started leaking to a small degree. The one in my Panel Truck does as well. All were new.
Can anyone recommend a supplier that sells reliable shut offs???

A very common reason for Shutoff valve leaks on new REPRO valves and rebuilt originals is small rust particles in gas tank.

The small rust particles get into the valve and score the surface of brass pieces of valve.

Grooves get worn in brass and leaks are result.

After some time the valves freeze up and will not turn.

1. A fix is to install a "finger filter" in the shutoff valve.

2. Another thing to do is to dis-assemble THE NEW valves and grease with EZ Turn Fuel proof grease from Aircraft Spruce Inc. The grease blocks the rust from getting into the valve.
rebu
I have used this grease on every valve I install for about 15 years.

Note: The valves I have used were bought from Berts Model A store.

Maybe the supplier read about mention on forums about the use of EZ Turn and started greasing their new valves!

I know that I mentioned it a number of times ...

I got tired of dealing with shut off valves that don't shut off. Even after installing one of Bratton's "3 year warranty" valves, a pencil filter and using EZ Turn lube, eventually they would start to dribble.

I finally installed a secondary valve and have not had a problem since.

After installing a pencil filter, polishing the gas valve inside’s, cleaning the carburetor float valve, I didn’t turn the gas valve off and no leaks for 8 months!!!! The carburetor started dripping and then I started shutting off the gas valve and running the carburetor dry. Still it would drip from the carburetor , I would tap on the carburetor with a hammer to stop the dripping. Knowing the gas valve was leaking through I then tapped on the gas valve ( late 31 indented) which then stopped the leaking through. My normal shut down for over night or longer is…… turning the gas valve off walk around the back of the car then turning off the keyed switch, no leaking for days or even weeks!

If the car is not a show car but a driver like mine, I'd look into installing a 1/4" ball valve instead of the original type. I've had no trouble with either car I have done that with. On another car, I used this kit https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/p...9345&cat=41707 and had no more trouble with that one.
I got to thinking about that little capsule of gas proof grease they include in that kit. I pondered for ages over what they used but everything I tried dissolved in gas. Then, it hit me. We need a lubricant that is water based, not the product of an barrel of oil. There was only one other application I could think of where that was important. I haven't tried it yet but I reckon a dab of KY lube would do the trick. I haven't gone to the trouble of buying some to test just in case my wife finds it!!!!

Synchro99 now you’ve done it ! The question now is would you buy use his Ky or her Ky ? Or combine the two ? Now I’am wondering if it would work in the rear water pump fitting? Please report back on your findings ( maybe your wife has lube hidden away ?)

Does this stuff have a "Use By" date?? If she had any, it would be set like concrete by now.

The EZ Turn worked will with my shutoff valve. Best to use it before you get any galling in the valve.

I've had a new shutoff leak as well. Since it is a spring loaded cone valve, I found that if you just push on it a little when you shut it off, at least until it gets worn in, it won't leak.

Try "Red Rubber Grease". It's vegetable sourced, from castor beans. How about margarine? It's another plant based item.
