Default Yblock Intake: ECZ-9425-B

I have a 57 ford country sedan. Is this intake compatible with the stock 292. I've read elsewhere that this intake is for Thunderbirds and is not compatible on a standard ford.

Although your "stock" 57 292 came equipped with a 2-bbl. carburetor, it should have the same big valve ECZ-G heads that came on all 57 Tbirds, including the C-code 292. The only exception would be the F-code, which had large combustion chambers (82cc v 69cc) to lower static compression. So, yes, the ECZ-B 4-bbl. intake will fit your 292. Keep in mind that the Holley 4000 "Teapot" carburetor was only used on the E-code equipped with 2 x 4 bbl in 57. The ECZ-B carburetor base is larger than the 55-56 intake and requires a 57-up carburetor. If you change only the intake (no cam, headers, etc.), I would look for a carburetor that's between 465 and 500 cfm.

The intake port size is different so you won’t gain the port size, and be careful with your gaskets as well. The only advantage would be 4 barrel capability.

The ECZ-B intake is the correct intake for 57 heads. It can be used on all other years of 272, 292, and 312 engines, but it was designed for the ECZ-G, EDB, 5752-113 and 5750-471 heads, but it can be used on all*. I suggest that you go to ford-y-block.com and look at the Y-Block Cylinder Head Chart. The ECZ-B intake manifold is the best factory Ford Y-block single 4-bbl. intake manifold

The above information can be confirmed by Ted Eaton (eatonbalancing.com), John Mummert (ford-y-block.com), Tim McMaster, and a number of forum members on y-blocksforever.com.

* 1957 E-Code and F-code engines use the "teapot" carburetor(s)/w smaller base than the 57 single 4-bbl. D-code engine, but other than combustion chamber volume, the heads are the same.

Intake port size s/b the same as the 57 heads, which I'm assume he has since the question was on a 57, as the B intake came on a 57. All 57 engines used the G heads regardless of size.

It’s a perfect fit. Go with a 400-500 cfm vacuum secondary carb. I have done this on a couple of occasions. Makes a great running 292.

I am using that intake on my 312 with an Autolite 4100. If I can get her to stop leaking I will get her running again.

I’m going with the ecz-b intake with electronic distributor. Any suggestions on a carb with eclectic choke? I prefer edelbrock…would the edelbrock 1403 work with this setup?

The 1403 should be fine. I’ve used the slightly larger 1406 on both stock and modified yblocks. With the vacuum activated secondaries they’re pretty forgiving if a little large.

Depending on your situation, they may require some fine tuning on the jets, but they’re really nice easy carbs to work on. I’ve only had to mess with the secondaries when I had a blow thru supercharger.

Any suggestions on an aftermarket air cleaner that fits the edelbrock?

My autolite came with an aftermarket chrome air cleaner. The type you would get at Pep Boys. I installed a stock 57 air cleaner but it sits 'crooked' due to the choke height. Still works but sits a little funny.
