1938 Deluxe w/8BA. Is stock 38 exhaust ok?
I’m running a 1950 8BA in my ‘38 with stock ‘38 manifolds and exhaust system. Is this system adequate for the 8BA? Can the ‘38 system handle exhaust volume from the 8BA?
As always, thank you in advance! Steve Last edited by 38convsedan; 03-06-2023 at 06:02 AM. |

It probably will be fine. The stock manifolds will be no problem at all. The stock tail pipe after the muffler gets noticeably smaller in diameter. I have been told the small tail pipe was there since the exhaust cooled off in the muffler making a larger pipe unnecessary. Most replacement systems use the same size pipe all the way to the back and should be fine with a 239 cubic inch engine. Mercury used the same type exhaust manifolds and pipes starting in 1939 with 239 cubic inch engines.
