Spare Tire Cover 46 Ford Woodie
What is the correct procedure for installing the metal rear spare tire band. I tried the following:
1. Install tire 2. install center metal cover fastened on the upper bolt 3. I tried to install the outer band with no luck. Any help would be appreciated. |

Lynn, your procedure is correct. Are you sure you have the correct size outer band?

It sounds like you are doing everything correctly. The outer band is sort of a "spring", for lack of a better word and clamps itself around the tire. Nothing actually holds it on other than the pressure around the tire, it's pretty tight.

Putting the band on over the faceplate by yourself is difficult. Especially if the lugnut tab is missing. To get the faceplate to cooperate I used some "windshield kit/ dumdum" on the spare and stuck the faceplate to it. Then with a helper I expanded the band and secured it to the spare. Haven't had it off in years! Wavecrest event starts today and I'm missing it for the first time in eight years! Bill

Re: Spare Tire Cover 46 Ford Woodie
While perhaps obvious, the tire size has to be as original or very close to it in terms of tread width. For any given tire size of the period, modern replacements often have wider tread widths than the originals.
