Default Tips on a cracked block/head

I'm unsure on which one is cracked if any. What I do know is the motor is locked really good and there was coolant dripping past the #1&#4 piston. The timing gears teeth are completely chewed up. The starter won't spin the motor and I don't have a hand crank. Also there is a chunk missing out of the bottom of the flywheel cover. So I basically stripped most of the parts off for more inspection. Stuck on the head though, it's a tuffy to pull off. When I do pull it where would the normal places be to check for cracks? I may replace head anyway so I'm really concerned more with the block.
