1940 Turns 50 tour in Reno Video? Photos added!
Hi,
Would anyone have a video of the cruise (tour) of 1940 Ford Turns 50 that went threw Reno or know of a website with photos? My recently acquired 40 Conv was in that cruise and I'd love a video or photo that would have in in it. Thanks Last edited by STEVE O; 02-03-2015 at 09:59 AM. |

Post your question on the Early Ford V-8 Club site also, as someone there might be able to help.

Try the Forties Limited of Orange County website. Several of the members helped with the promotion and participated. Some of them are still around and may be of assistance to you. Same with the San Jose 40's.

The 40s Limited did not run the tour, helped out I think, but that is as far as I know - just the 40 Ford Day at La Palma Park - it was the late Art Branum of Mr 40s who made up the tour but I think he got most of his help from the San Jose 40s. His shop is still out there - www.mr40s.com - try to contact the new owner and perhaps he can help you out on a video or perhaps he can get you in contact with one of Art's sons who may be able to help you out .... Re: 1940 Turns 50 tour in Reno Video?
40is50 tour was put on by 3 guys, 2 of whom are deceased (Art Branum, and Vern Williams). Surviving guy is Dick Santana of 40's of San Jose, and he lives in Gilroy,Ca. Mr. 40's is now run by Art's oldest son, who may be of some help. I was one of the tour team leaders on the tour, and don't remember anyone doing a video. There was a panoramic shot of all the cars in a group taken, Mr. 40's may still have some.

Re: 1940 Turns 50 tour in Reno Video?
I found a picture of my wife holding a video camera! Now if I can only find a box of old unlabeled vhs tapes, I may have some video of the tour. I do have the panoramic shot of the cars that was taken at Donner's Pass Ski area. If Mr. 40's doesn't have any more copies, I can probably scan it for you. If your car started the tour in Reno, it will be in the picture.

Re: 1940 Turns 50 tour in Reno Video?
Hi Klicker,
I was lucky enough to talk to the wife of the org. owner and all she could remember was that her and her late husband loved that cruise and she said she remembered going thru Reno. I have attached 2 photos of the car but I don't have any of the car with a hood or engine before it was partially stripped. I tried to attach the photos here but only see where to as a url instead of a reg. file. Thank you for all your help Steve |

Re: 1940 Turns 50 tour in Reno Video?
I had just finished my Coupe the year before. I ran across some of the San Jose 40's at a run to Lodi, CA. They told me about the "40 is 50" tour from Reno, but I knew I was not able to get enough time off to participate in the complete tour. I could only make it down to Anaheim for the "40 Ford Day" at La Palma Park; the tour's final destination. One of the San Jose 40 members, a fellow name "Vinny", told me his buddy "Chet" had cancelled his room reservation in Anaheim, CA., So I took it. Dad and I drove down early on the Friday morning. La Palma Park was packed on Saturday. I did purchase a VHS copy of the tour tape. I still have it, but the last time I viewed it was obvious it has degraded somewhat in quality. I do not remember if that tape covered anything other than the gathering at La Palma Park.
There is a business card stapled onto the VHS tape box: Expanded Horizons Video Production Co. Gaylord Barrington 121 3rd St. Seal Beach, CA 90740 Phone: (213) 493-1784 I would guess they were the ones who made the tape, but I have no idea if they are still in business or could come up with a copy of a 25 year old event. Best regards, David |

Re: 1940 Turns 50 tour in Reno Video?
Steve:
No problem, glad to help. You brought back some great memories that dad and I shared that weekend. The photos you attached of your car did not display. I took a lot of photos that weekend. There were not very many Convertibles there. I only remember two of them. One was a driver quality, painted bright red with 1939 Deluxe front sheet metal; it was from San jose, CA. The other was show quality, dark blue or black, and had fully detailed IFS, and IRS. I believe the second one had Standard front sheet metal with a chromed grille. If I could see a photo of your car, I might be able to identify it in the photos I took. Best regards, David |

Hi David
I can't figure out how to post a picture here. How can I add a pdf file from this quick reply box? It only asks for a url? Thanks Steve |

Photo that was a man was nice enough to send me of some of the 1940s grouped during the 1940 Turns 50 tour. Hope some of your cars are there!

Re: 1940 Turns 50 tour in Reno Video? Photos added!
My 40 is in the back most row, in the middle, facing left - the nose of the car had pink, to lilac, to purple flames over a dark maroon body. My buddy's black 40 with gold flames is facing me I believe ....

I will upload a few pictures when I get a chance. Glad someone posted the panorama. Mine is framed and glassed in, too many reflections to make copies. |
