Shock absorber grease retainer cup placement...
What is the correct placement for the shock absorber grease retainer cups, A-18059?
The cups are not symetrical or uniform as far as the placement of the round hole is concerned as there is more metal on one end than the other. So, is the top retainer (shock arm to shock link) placed so that there is more metal on the top or on the bottom? Is the bottom retainer (shock link to front spring perch) placed so that there is more metal on the top or on the bottom? Thanks. Pluck Last edited by Steve Plucker; 02-01-2014 at 07:25 PM. |

Re: Shock absorber grease retainer cup placement...
on all model A shock links the grease retainers the off sets go up. and that means on the shock arm as well as the spring perch`s. the early AR`s did not have an off set.

Re: Shock absorber grease retainer cup placement...
For me, a picture is worth a thousand words. Based on an article in the 1967 Restorer, Vol 12 Issue 1 Pages 7-8. Quote: "the hole in these parts is not in the center and the offset side is assembled down at the shock arm and up at the perch ball". This makes sense to me since the thicker end of the cups would continue to cover the opening in the link as the internal assembly is compressed by the end plug and the perch end slightly during operation.
