Re: 1961 Galaxie radiator support vs 1962
OOPS MISSED your photo. Our engine has the correct fuel filter, but intake & carb is 2 brl and vac advance distributor . Luckily the correct air cleaner was in the trunk!

Wouldn't it be nice to know what the assembly engine was?

Isn't the 5th character of the vin/serial number the engine code letter?
That should tell you what engine it left the factory with. (1961) ENGINE Code R.....8-Cylinder 292 Cubic Inch (4-barrel Low compression Export, 84 Octane) T.....8-Cylinder 292 Cubic Inch (Dual Low compression Export, 84 Octane) V.....6-Cylinder 223 Cubic Inch W.....8-Cylinder 292 Cubic Inch (Dual) X.....8-Cylinder 352 Cubic Inch (Dual) Z.....8-Cylinder 390 Cubic Inch (4-barrel) Source... http://www.so-calgalaxies.com/1961 Fyi, 1962 Decoder... http://www.so-calgalaxies.com/1962 ENGINE Code B….8 Cylinder 406 Cubic Inch (4-barrel High Performance) G….8 Cylinder 406 Cubic Inch (three 2-barrel High Performance) M.....8-Cylinder 390 Cubic Inch (6-barrel High Performance) (typo >) "p….9-Cylinder 390 Cubic Inch (4-barrel, Police)" (correction, P....8-Cylinder 390 Cubic Inch (4-barrel, Police) Q.....8-Cylinder 390 Cubic Inch (4-barrel High Performance) R.....8-Cylinder 390 Cubic Inch (4-barrel Low compression Export, 84 Octane) T.....8-Cylinder 292 Cubic Inch (2-barrel Low compression Export, 84 Octane) V.....6-Cylinder 223 Cubic Inch W.....8-Cylinder 292 Cubic Inch (2-barrel) X.....8-Cylinder 352 Cubic Inch (2-barrel) Z.....8-Cylinder 390 Cubic Inch (4-barrel) . But to me, just the front brake line indicates it may be a HP car. The wheels and 11 x 3 front brakes would go further but all of that may have been swapped over from an actual HP car. The HP car had manual STR and brakes. No creature comforts. An actual POLICE ENGINE (330HP) would have a P-ENGINE CODE.

Re: 1961 Galaxie radiator support vs 1962
Still hoping to find a build sheet. Of course without that at this point there is no absolute way to tell but the presence of the the 3 color matching kh wheels (car was wrecked at one point thus the 62 front clip and one missing kh wheel) extra rear leaf spring, thick clutch pedal pad, still has factory exhaust with mufflers and resonators with the factory cast iron headers, hi po fuel filter, hi po heads, hi po air cleaner, relocated brake line from the factory and big brakes I feel 100% that it was a factory hipo car before the block and intake change, but without the line setting sheet I will never know if they had opt for the tri power. Did the tri power come on the engine or in the trunk? If in the trunk would the line set ticket even show that? Thanks Steve

I would think that it would have been documented as if delivered as a 375 or 401HP. I would also a$$-u-me that if a 375HP car, the 4V intake, carb, ACL & possible 3/S - 3/S OD would have had to be returned to FOMOCO.

Re: 1961 Galaxie radiator support vs 1962
Here are a few more interesting tidbits -
https://www.hemmings.com/stories/art...axie-starliner The write-up states the 3 x 2 was actually factory installed at the end of production. I used to have a handle on this period but old age and the "I TASTE THE WINE BEFORE IT'S TIME" syndrome seems to have fogged my memory.
