Recently came across a great head with the ford script on it, When was it used, the years...looking for any information on this for Fine Point Judging.

Under the script is the letter "N" stamped into it also.

I see a embossed "W1" near the distributor hole on a lot of Model A cylinder heads, including mine.

What does it signify?

Mark , this question was asked before on the old Fordbarn. Its a Early FORD replacement head. I have a n.o.s. one i tried to sell at Hershey last year.$125.00 ... I am putting it on the 170b. just because. If you put in on for a Fine point judging what will it be marked down as??? Its not a reproduction> It is a FORD orginial part. no one else made it. Just thinking???

Concur with Pete, it is an original Ford part but it is a replacement after production. I have one I bought from B.S. Wisnouwski years ago So many guys get screwed today buying something labeled FoMoCo. These are service replacement parts. Some smart engineer figured a way to make one part fit from 1928 to 1934 for example. I've bought stuff like this thinking it was NOS and found out later. Still good stuff for a driver as opposed to repro junk.

Hi Hoarse

We get the W1 heads here too. I always presumed that it stood for Windsor. Incidently my early Canadian Block has a large W cast on the inner surface behind the timing gear

Thanks for the response Bick.

Maybe the "W" does represent Windsor, or perhaps Walkerville, which was amalgamated with Windsor in 1935.

Ford opened a plant in Walkerville in 1904.
