Default 1928 Fuel Tank Capacity

The literature and specs for the 1928 gas tanks say 10 gallons.

After draining the tank thru the sediment bowl, I was able to add an accurate 11 gallons to the tank and still be 1 - 2 quarts below the filler neck.

Was there a change in tanks during the 1928 year?

Thanks in advance Fordbarn!

I dont believe so i think it is simply so you dont over fill it and when the float hits the bottom if it is working properly i believe it leaves you with about a gallon so you dont run out of fuel even though it says empty. I could be wrong but i think it is that simple.

You may have hit on something. When I got my car ready for its first drink, I poured in 5 gallons and expected to see the gauge at 1/2 full. It wasn't. Maybe that first gallon is unmeasured.

According to my literature, '28 and '29 had 10 gallon tanks and '30 and
'31 had 11 gallon tanks. Is it possible that somewhere along the way you
car acquired the bigger tank? I'm not even sure they were interchangeable,
so forgive me if I'm all wet.

The tanks arent interchangeable. On the 28-29 it is part of the firewall and on the 30-31 the firewall is one piece and the tank sits behind it.

Jack were you at the local meet this sunday at Beef O' Bradys?

Yes, I was at Beef O' Brady's. Were you the "youngun" that didn't drive his
Car because you were afraid it might break down? If so, I teased you about
never wearing out your car if you didn't drive it, lol.

I have a 29 AA (same fwd from cowl) and have found that when the guage indicates that there is still fuel in the tank and the sediment bowl is full, it will not have enough fuel to promote the flow of gas. Come to find out, it's the fuel pick up tube in the tank and it's not picking up the fuel as it is above the level of fuel left in the tank. I've not measured the amount that the tank holds, but I now know that if the guage shows approx. a gallon I'm out of fuel for all practical purposes. I don't know if I have helped of hindered, but I thought it may contribute.
