Default Glue in pan?

I just dropped the pan on my ’29. My god, that thing is heavy. I forgot how heavy those model A pans were. There was no sludge on the baffle, and it is held in place with some kind of glue. I am going to remove it because I found crud in the hollow pan plug, but I’ve never seen glue around the sides of a baffle before.

Any ideas?

Some people do 'odd' things. Can you post a photo?

You probably wouldn't have to get it very hot with a propane torch to wreck the glue and free it up. It's a pretty tight fit without the glue.

Are you sure it's not some newer style of liquid gasket?? Any idea when the pan was last off? If NO sludge it couldn't have been too long ago.........

Now, aren't you glad you drained the oil first?

Watch those sharp edges, or have a lot of band aids

When I dropped the pan on my '31 the top of the splash tray was clean but I had some sludge in the bottom, less than 1/4" as near as I could tell. There was NO WAY that tray was coming out, at least I couldn't figure out a way to spread the pan enough to relieve the tray from the pan so I cleaned it with the tray in place. A bit of a PITA but got it squeaky clean. If the '28 pan is the same as a '31, I don't know what would compel someone to glue it in.

Dropping the pan upside down onto the grass is the easiest way to get the dip tray removed.
Sometimes it needs a bit of push towards the ground, but it always comes out.

If it doesn't come out as Tom suggests, stick a 2x2 or a baseball bat onto the hole for the oil pump. Put one foot on the edge of the pan and pry the tray up and out.

there is a hole in two stroke jetski engines to look at the flywheel. often we find them full of oil to the top. people get some wild ideas some times and rarely read the manual. clean off the glue. I bend the baffle with a large screw driver to get it out and reshape it after its clean. I tried the toss at the ground method it worked but the mess was more than I wanted to deal with.

A friend of mine that works on model A’s a lot, made a puller. It works good, but in my opinion, it’s to slow.

I don't get it. See #8 and I just drop it in the yard where I don't walk. Any sludge or oil will be gone in a week, or you can lay down newspaper to catch it, then burn it in the backyard fire pit.
