Re: Quick Flathead question for everyone
I believe that the difference is the location of the shifting mechanism. The S10 is farther forward than the mustang type.

Re: Quick Flathead question for everyone
The late '80s/early '90s Mustang W/C T-5 is a better choice over an S-10 because of better ratios, internal improvements and higher strength, but the S-10 tail housing swap moves the shifter forward and next to the gear box. A 1" adapter will mate the trans to any '49-'53 Ford/'51-'53 Mercury bell housing.

Re: Quick Flathead question for everyone
Hi..i'm in the way to put Ford t5 on my potvin powered flathead,,and i see that there are other ways to put the shift level forward,,,a remote lever mechanism is the right way,in a mustang web page there is one type for sale....other easy way i try is to buy a opel corsa c shift lever.....or at least is not really difficult to build one yourself......

Re: Quick Flathead question for everyone
Definitely go for the late model Mustang. Better ratios and MANY improvements over the S-10.. I have used the 1" adapter plate but for my current build I am using a Quick Time bellhousing from Speedway Motors. Not cheap ($570.00) but I believe it will hold the critical engine to trans alignment more accurately..

I like the remote shifter using the original shifter location and shifter. That's what I am using with a Ford T5z transmission. Last edited by JSeery; 03-14-2015 at 09:14 PM. |

Re: Quick Flathead question for everyone
I think this is what was meant by a remote lever

V8 Bob
Where did you get that adapter, I've been making them, but this is a better and cheaper way to go |

A few early '51s used the '49-'50 stamped steel 1/2 bell and round patterned transmissions. |

Re: Quick Flathead question for everyone
That adapter works with the 49-53 Ford and Mid 51 merc bell housings using all stock parts except the disk.
