Default 40 roof antenna question

I am thinking of installing a radio and roof antenna on my sedan. before I cut a hole in the roof I would like to know what the inside finish looks like. There will be a hole in the headliner I guess. Is there a grommet? I think there will be a hole in the inside shelf also. The center area on the inside was rusted away and I had to repair that. Can anyone post a couple photos and some explanation of what the inside looks like. Thanks

The antenna will come with a template to show you where to drill. It fits on the top of the roof front center. No hole in the headliner, the antenna comes through behind the rear view mirror. Remove the mirror and you should see a hole.

You will have drill a hole in the dash for the antenna to attach to the radio. The hole is also the main way to support the radio also. If it was me I would leave the car alone and not drill any extra holes. If you need music get a "boom box" and put it on the back seat.

The dash has a hole from the factory and has a plastic plug in it if the car has no radio.

As Ken said. Plastic button looks like this.
It just sits in the hole.

I repaired that area. It was rusted away. I used the garnish to know where the mirror holes should be. What size is the hole and where is it on the inside. Thanks to all.

The comment on the car cover is a good one that I hadn't thought of.

Is there any other type of antennae you could use without
having to make a hole in your roof? Roof hole = potential leak.
Please don't be tempted to mount antennae on you cowl.

I mounted my antenna on my rear bumper, because I didn't want to drill a hole. Also I wasn't sure if the original antennas was FM capable.

It is very easy to install a plastic grommet in a car cover to allow the antenna to protrude. Also easy, is sewing a reinforcement within the cover to protect it.

Me? I don't care for the look of an antenna on the back bumper or for that matter, anywhere else other than stock.

It probably depends on the look you're after. If you want a stock appearance and by all means it has to go where Henry would have put it,but mine's a street rod.I polished an aluminum elbiow mounting it on the outside bumper bolt.I think it looks pretty nice, but that's my opinion.Someone welded up the roof hole.
