Default What's Happened Here.....?

Surely Henry didn't have Orange RTV Sealant and electrical tape? Is this a big worry? Is something leaking? Is it a major fix? LEAK01B.jpgLEAK02B.jpg

That's the clutch throw-out shaft - it's probably a bit worn and is just self-lubricating or was !

Open it up and see what is going on. If it has damage it wont be fun when you are out on a tour.

According to my book "Tinkering Tips" it is not hard, it does take time. Requiring removal of the hogshead, then the shaft. He mentions obtaining new shafts ( pedal and clutch ) If the cover is worn then he would cut a groove in the opening to accept an O ring. Or using a lathe the pedal shafts can be cut to accept O rings. However due to the fact that the clutch shaft moves in and out he would take a small abrasive stone in a quarter inch drill, then grind a groove in the shaft hole to hold a neoprene O ring. Best Wishes

Get all of that tape and stuff off that clutch shaft and see what you have. Share some pics. Could be an attempt to stop an oil leak or a quick fix on something else. The MTFCA transmission book is helpful as is the Ford Service manual.
