Accelerator Foot Rest Location
Would anyone be able to tell me the location (distance) of the accelerator foot rest in relation to the accelerator cap?
Thanks, |

Re: Accelerator Foot Rest Location
The footrest hole is shown next to the throttle cutout (small hole for the threaded shaft of the footrest). Steve Watrous made the nice print. Double click on the link below to see Steve's print with dimensions.

Re: Accelerator Foot Rest Location
Thank you to Rusty,
I have that drawing that you referenced. I made my upper floor board to this drawing. I inserted the hole, but had no idea why it was there. The accelerator foot rest that I received from a parts vendor, comes with a plate that is secured to the floorboard with 3 wood screws. The support plate also has a flat machined in it. So, it the footrest support plate installed, centered over the hole in the floorboard? The footrest itself is threaded to screw into the support plate and comes with a locking nut. So, why the hole in the floorboard? Thanks, |

Re: Accelerator Foot Rest Location
Now, that makes sense since you have said that. I just assumed that the foot rest was meant to be extended fairly high, about the height of the accelerator cap.
Much thanks! |

Re: Accelerator Foot Rest Location
JBill is correct, the hole is so the threaded part of the footrest can be lowered into the hole if desired. If you check the picture I attached above, you can see the flat part of the footrest plate faces the drivers side of the vehicle, with the threaded shaft aligned with the hole in the floorboard.

Re: Accelerator Foot Rest Location
If you set the high level with the gas pedal at your cruising speed, your foot will like you on a long tour! :-)

Re: Accelerator Foot Rest Location
i was gonna say it would be very beneficial to adjust it where flat level ground cruising your foot is parallel to the board then hills you just have to tilt your foot.

Re: Accelerator Foot Rest Location
That footrest was put there to avoid breaking the torgue tube and/or the rear axle banjo. First gear is low and the car can lurch forward, throwing the driver to the rear where foot comes off the gas pedal, car stops lurching, driver tromps the gas ... ... ... At one point in time the castings were beefed up because of this.

Re: Accelerator Foot Rest Location
I think it was a necessity for driving on those rough and bouncy roads to prevent flooring the gas on big bumps.

Re: Accelerator Foot Rest Location
After not driving my car for a while, I tried to start it by pressing the foot rest! It's hard to remember wher everything is on these cars. My wife said I need a check sheet like the pilots have to start the car.
I probably need one for shutoff too, so I won't forget to turn off the key after I run the carb dry like I did the other day. It's tough getting old. David Serrano |

Re: Accelerator Foot Rest Location
I have a hard time remembering the open and closed position of the gas shutoff valve. I made a little sign and hung it on the gas line next to the shutoff - problem solved, I think.

Re: Accelerator Foot Rest Location
The gas must flow down and out to the carb -- handle points down. Off- hold back the flow -- handle crosses the downward flow.
