Re: seat identification...1932??
It looks to be from a '33 Fordor. The spacing of the holes for the seat tracks do not conform to the pattern of '32s. The angled corners at the front of the rectangular opening in the bottom also are unlike that of a '32 Fordor seat.

Re: seat identification...1932??
Gerrald , Coupe seats are metal bottom pans and the rest is wood other than some braces and hardware . I can send pics of the seat in my 5w if needed . I also have seen 4d seats used in other cars . Maybe someone has used a 4d bottom pan to modify into a coupe seat ? The wood stuff is easy to get . If you want to try this the 3 rib { 34 } has issues so it would be a candidate for cutting down . Re: seat identification...1932??
Hi all; Save the seat for someone, we modify 32 four door seats to become 32 cabriolet seats. 33/34 may be able to do the same trick. Newc

Re: seat identification...1932??
Is there a "comprehensive guide" to 1932-1934 seat frames anywhere? This is as close as I could find, but it sure would be nice to have it spelled out in black and white with pictures in list form. Someone has to have their own seat reference guide they can share!

Re: seat identification...1932??
All of the various '32 passenger car seat frames are shown in the Early V-8 Club's The 1932 Ford Book, a Production Chronicle and Restoration Guide.

Re: seat identification...1932??
Hi David - I'm in the early stages of trying define just what I have in my 32 Cabriolet, currently focusing on the seat. The seat bottom does not have the wood base shown in the picture on page 15-2. I count 9 pleats (the book says 8). It seems like the basic seat bottom is a little oversized to slide back under the seat back also (9 panel).
I'd appreciate any thoughts as I enjoy the pursuit. Dick |

Re: seat identification...1932??
Dick,
Below is a poor copy of a period archives photo of a '32 cabriolet interior taken from above (a rare view compared to the typical Ford Photographic Department photo angles). Note the eight pleats in the seat cushions. As for the front seat bottom springs, all '32 seat bottom springs were attached to a four-sided wood platform be they passenger cars, commercial vehicles, or big trucks. See next note for the photo; sorry. |

Re: seat identification...1932??
David - Thanks much for the response. I wonder if what I have might not be a 32 seat due to the absence of the wood bottom frame. The current seat bottom does not slide all the way back under the seat back and without the wood frame, there is no way to secure the bottom over the two dowels on the seat frame.
I need to find a correct 32 seat somewhere that I can look at. There are plenty of other things to keep me challenged with the Restoration book close by. Thanks, Dick |
