Default Amperage for Electrolysis Rust Removal???

I tried some rust removal for a gas tank yesterday and it really work quite simply. However I had my charger on 12 volts 2amps and I was wondering if going to 10 amps would work faster. I only had it running for 6 hours and I will be running it again to get more derusting done.

Thanks

When we used to use Vanish Crystals, we would use a charger that had a 10 amp setting. Watch it every couple of hours! The 10 amps is definately quicker.

I've been doing a variety of parts in my electrolysis bath lately.
I've got an old Montgomery Wards charger that only is switchable from 6v to 12v. It supposedly senses the current needed and adjusts accordingly.

When I have a clean electrode and only on 1 side of the part the charger goes to about 2 amps. Cleaning the scum off the electrode will raise the amps a bit.

When I put an electrode in front of AND behind the part the amps goes up to about 4.

Depending on the part its been taking 3 - 6 hours to get it relatively clean.

I use pieces of rebar for electrodes.

For electrolyte I use water with washing soda, 1 tsp per gallon.
