Default 1940 Deluxe clutch shudder

I have a 40 Deluxe which has developed clutch shudder when starting from stationery. I have to try the simple things first ie: What is the prescribed way to adjust the two long stabiliser rods located either side of the clutch housing, are these intended to arrest shudder?
What else should I be looking for?

FIRST, Check your motor mounts and rear transmission mounts. Replace if needed.
Easy to change.
SECOND, Stabiliizer rods should be snug with no play. There is no specific torque that I know of.
Have you tried adjusting your clutch?

Is it a greaseable throw out bearing. Is there a possibility of to much grease and some got on the clutch?

My first thing to do would be to check clutch finger height.
This is done by putting a straight edge across the top of the pressure plate and using that to measure to the places contacted by the throwout bearing.
NOT the most fun, as one must remove the transmission to do this.
BUT, you'll get there anyway-

You'll imagine that I have done this.

Karl

PS, the avatar A-V8 does not have the stabalizer rods.
On the original assembly, one of the clutch fingers was higher than others.
Now I check finger height right after bolting clutch down.

Just went through the chatter issue. Ended up sending the pressure plate, friction disc and throw out bearing to Fort Wayne Clutch and Drive line.
Phone 260-484-8505 . Checked everything and rebuilt the marcel. Smooth as silk now. Give them a call.
