1955 Victoris SS moulding clips
Need Help. I am pulling off all the SS trim getting ready for paint. The trim has every type of clip every where. No two pieces left or right the same. there has been a lot of shade tree work don on this car. Looking at replacing all the clips I am at a loss, Any one has input on what clips go where would be really appreciated.

Concours Parts in Carson City Nevada sell the retaining clips for these Fords. You can download the Catalog which give Part Numbers. The Factory Shop Manual would also be a good reference book. http://concoursparts.com/catalogs/ |

Contact Dennis Carpenter. In their catalog for 55 parts in the back section they show where all the different clips go.

The Hot Rod Reverend is a good source, he's had his car down to the bare bones. The only correct reference I've seen for my car was the Jim Osbourn trim & sealant manual. It clearly shows what goes where. Jeff at Restoration Specialties is good too, he came up with everything for my car. |

Re: 1955 Victoris SS moulding clips
Unless the info comes from the year correct FORD MASTER PARTS CATALOG, any info will not likely be accurate.
I found (hidden deep within the bowels of my old computer) the 49/59 and 60/64 MPC's I have on .pdf. Interesting as I was thumbing through, FORD had a molding attaching parts listing that showed the PN and contents of the attaching parts package included with the moldings. You could either source them by this method or individual clips as they were shown in the EXTERIOR MOLDING SECTION along with the molding PN and ID.

Re: 1955 Victoris SS moulding clips
This has been very helpful. I have identified all the moulding clips I need but two. There is a small spring style clip (kind of like the door panel clips) that are at the very front of the quarter body top SS trim where it ties into the rear window trim. Mine are very rusty. I guess I could use them if I have to but don't want to. Any body have an idea?

Re: 1955 Victoris SS moulding clips
I have looked all through their products and have not found anything similar. Still waiting for a response from their "Contact Us" site.
I am wondering if the clips I am looking for were not on the original trim by Ford and done by "Shade tree Body Work" |

You say it is a 55 VICTORIA. Do you have a BODY CODE NO? You are describing the rear glass reveal moldings?

Re: 1955 Victoris SS moulding clips
Body code is 60B. I am addressing the SS moulding trim that is on top of the rear quarter and runs from the tail light to the rear window SS trim. There was a clip that went into that small hole seen in the picture.

My 49/59 MPC is on a dead computer. Let me see if I can draw it out tonight and I will post the info.

Re: 1955 Victoris SS moulding clips
OK...
1955FAIRLANE VICTORIA 60B Came to find out the 49/59 MPC MOLDING ILL is not as detailed as the later year issues. The MLDG ILL shows the molding but does not show ATTACHING PARTS. The actual retainers are listed within the Basic PN Text of the subject molding. It does not give placement detail (as does later year cataloging) but just quantity used on the particular molding. The actual detail you are looking for may be in the 1955 FORD SERVICE MANUAL or a VEHICLE ASM MANUAL was issued for assembly plants. I have seen these on EvilBay. EDIT This is an interior trim panel retaining clip- Somebody flat-rated at some point. The TEXT shows two different retainers for that particular molding. One PN calls for two pieces so I am thinking what you are looking for has a FORD P&A No. - B5A 6029180-A Automotive Restoration Fasteners, Hardware, Fastener Kits, Parts- Click Here Shots below. Re: 1955 Victoris SS moulding clips
OK, Problem solved. I did get in contact with Restoration Specialties and had luck. Jeff had me send in the picture of the clip and he said that he had some. They are not in their catalog but he knew where they were. I now hace two clips, identical to the ones I needed. He said they were from a late 50's ford . . Again, thanks for all the help.

Re: 1955 Victoris SS moulding clips
For future reference, I saw scads and scads of wire clips shaped like this on EPay, but you gotta watch out as the descriptions don't always give length-width sizes.
If you go to Ebay motors Parts/accessories and type "trim moulding clips or retainers or fasteners, you will see page after page of them. But here I would consider getting a standard nylon push-in type clip. They make many sizes and if need be you could easily trim one down a little in a bench grinder to fit. That darn Fairlane top rear fender stainless trim spear. You cant reach you hand way back in there to get a nut & washer on unless your arms were six feet long. You have to use a push in tension type clip for the first couple of holes there. |
