Default Spring shackles

Has anyone used the neoprene type shackles the vendors sell on the rear ?
I,m thinking of using a set on our 33 and wondered about how they will stand up.
Thanks Lawrie

Lawrie, I would suggest not using Neoprene (synthetic rubber) shackle bushings. What I would suggest is using Polyurethane type bushings as sold by Bob Drake and other old Ford parts suppliers. I don't know if these squeak, but I am confident they will last longer than rubber bushings.

Lawrie, I bought them with some spring shackles used as lower mounts for shocks in the front. I don't remember where I bought them.

Not sure if polurethane or nylon or whatever, but mine came from Speedway, easy to install, easy to remove, no squeeks and no perceivable wear after several cross country trips. If on the Concourse, though, a savvy judge might catch them. I painted mine black so as to not be so obvious.

If you have access to a lathe you can make some out of brass.
These have been working "squeak free" since 1975.

For anyone interested in buying these sintered bronze flanged bearings, the Bunting part number is EF081216. They are available at industrial supply houses or on line at many places. Prices vary greatly, I bought some for less than $2 each.

These people make oil-lite bronze bushings. Excellent quality. Never need to lube. Call for the size you need.

I seem to recall Walter Chrysler showing of his new car to Henry Ford with his all new rubber mounted engine suspension ,The next year Ford adopted it ,maybe road noise is something to consider .Ted
