how to remove stuck valve?
i have one valve left in the 8Ba block to remove. It is seized in the closed position.
What are the options for removing this valve? It has been soaking a few days now. I added some heat from a plumbers torch, hoping to drive the acetone MMO down around the stem but i have noway to apply pressure to push it up. any ideas? |

Re: how to remove stuck valve?
KD Valveguide puller will fix that for you.
The clip holding the guide will be destroyed taking it out but the rest will be saved. |

Re: how to remove stuck valve?
if the valve and guide are stuck removing the clip wont help, even if you can get the clip out, you may wind up cutting the valve spring up with a cutting torch and then a small piece of the valve so you can get some thing under valve stem and prying it up, once the valve is out you can drive the guide down into the valve chamber, if you do deceid to cut the valve be careful of splattering hot oil and sludge if you can get the valve up a half an inch you then can break the head of by bending it back and forth a few times, the head will break off, then its easy to drive the guide down

Re: how to remove stuck valve?
The KD tools get the clip out even with the guide stuck, it will be scrap but comes out.
Then clamp it up with the KD 918 and give it a good wack with a copper sledge, badly stuck guides come out this way. The KD valveguide puller beats all metods ive tried in speed. |

Re: how to remove stuck valve?
Those KD 918 pullers show up on flea pay a lot or at least they used to. The guide clip is soft so they will just shear off. The valve head can be cut with a torch but I've never had to resort to that. I have several pullers that will knock the guides loose so cutting a valve is usually not necessary in my situation.

Thanks, Gary in N.Y. P.S. We had the torch option but there was too much old oil/grease build-up to be safe!

As long as it's being well soaked in the MMO mix, start applying pressure a little at a time using the cam. It'll move. Jack E/NJ |

Re: how to remove stuck valve?
I got an old 8BA engine from a friend that came from an old Ford truck. The engine was stuck so the old farmer that owned it tried dragging it with his tractor to break it free. Evidently the cylinders weren't the problem. It had a cam follower driven through the top of one lifter surface by a valve stem and the cam was broken in two places. It ended up being a good block but it was a bear to get the valve train out of that one.

Re: how to remove stuck valve?
Sounds like the old farmer was kinda impatient and didn't give the MMO mix enough time to do its magic. 8^)
