Default Toe in

When measuring the toe in where is it measured ? Six inches off the floor ? Which diameter ? At the edge of the wheel ? Center of side wall ? or out at the tread ? Thank you.

Snyder's sells a real accurate gage. 6" is correct, fatest part of tire on the inside.

it doesnt matter where you measure from as long as you do the same on the front as the back. be carefull of tread variations can throw you off a little. i find it easier if using a tape measure to go from one of the center treads. as far as height go for the centerline of the wheel.

A-3282 is the Snyder's part number for the Toe-IN Gage.

if you mark the tire, measure, then roll the car so the mark is to the rear, and measure you eliminate any error due to wheel runout.

This should help from Marco's site:

http://www.abarnyard.com/workshop/align.htm

I have used one of those adjustable spring loaded shower curtain rods, with rubber bumpers, that goes between two walls to hold up a curtain and a couple of chains for height measurement.

Since the rubber bumpers do not allow the rod to swivel, you must mount the chains so that they rotate on the rod as car is moved forward as the bar goes to the rear.

Also have seen the tape measure used.

Instructions for using the Snyder Model A Toe-In-Gage.

As per Ford Service Bulletin, page 282, Toe-in should be 1/16”, plus or minus 1/32”.

Start by removing the 1/16” gage wire from the toe-in rod and then replace the carriage bolt and lock nut.

1. Drive car perfectly straight onto the garage floor.
2. Place a chalk mark on the inside of both tires. The mark should be on the forward side of the axle, 6 inches from the floor, and at the widest part of the tire
3. Hold the toe-in gage on the two chalk marks and turn the carriage bolt until you have a light, sliding fit across the chalk marks.
4. Snug the lock nut finger tight so the carriage bolt will not turn and check a second time for a light, sliding fit across the chalk marks.
5. Remove the gage and roll car forward until the chalk marks are at the rear of the tire and 6 inches from the floor.
6. Again, hold the toe-in gage at the chalk marks and you should have a gap where the 1/16 inch gage wire will slide lightly between the tire and the end of the gage.
7. If gap is not 1/16 inch, you must turn tie rod accordingly and start over
again at step number 1.
8. When you achieve correct toe-in, remember to tighten the two tie rod bolts.
9. After 20 miles of driving, recheck the toe-in.
