KULTULZ - info on breaker plate
A guy has a distributor breaker plate for sale B7A-22151-A. Says it's for a dual point setup. Can you check?
Thanks

Re: KULTULZ - info on breaker plate
could it be B7A-12151-A not B7A-22151-A?
Found this on the web: 1957 Ford and Thunderbird NOS Dual Point Distributor Breaker Plate B7A-12151-A

Re: KULTULZ - info on breaker plate
Here's a copy of the photo in the ad paul2748 is asking about, B7A-12151-A is on the box.
I don't have a part number book but I believe the part in the photo is for single points, not dual. Mostly because there is only one round hole with the small screwdriver notch for gap adjustment, and the pair of threaded screw holes for mounting a 2nd set of points is missing. . Re: KULTULZ - info on breaker plate
That breaker plate is the 1957-59 single plate design. FORD went to two plate design, phasing in the 1958 model run.
The one shown is getting scarce. If you wanted dual points, usually it was a MALLORY conversion plate kit. ADDENDUM (Fr) - Aftermarket Dual Point Kit shown below (1957-59 Single Plate) -

The DUAL POINT CONVERSION shown was aftermarket. The OP is either un-knowledgeable and/or shady.

Re: KULTULZ - info on breaker plate
There were oem Fomoco dual points plates available for '57, used in the distributors of the higher horsepower performance engines. Possibly the 285 hp E code engines as well as the supercharged F code engines.
Very hard to find and made of unobtainum, with a corresponding price. http://www.portholeauthority.com/thu...ch/engine.html |

Re: KULTULZ - info on breaker plate
I don't have a library of old Ford documents.
It was a conversation between a couple F-code collectors/restorers on a Y-block page on facebook... they were discussing restoring an F-code specific distributor and needing an original Fomoco dual points plate for it. (not an aftermarket reproduction) I don't recall them posting a photo of the rusted one that needed replacement but it's possible. If I can track down a photo I'll share it. In the meantime... a copy of a Sun Electric Corp. '57 F-code tune up spec sheet. Notice the dwell spec is listed as 26-28.5 degrees for each set of points and 33-36 degrees when both sets are combined. . Last edited by dmsfrr; 06-12-2021 at 11:29 AM. |

But you have a valid point (pun intended). If you come across any more info, please post. THANX! for ringing my bell. Below is a bowl photo from a post the owner describing his 57 BIRD E-CODE 285HP as coming through with dualing points. Hard to verify after all these years.

Re: KULTULZ - info on breaker plate
I asked a couple folks I know of who are F-code owners if they could share photos of an original dual points plate. I got these two views back so far, of the same distributor.

Re: KULTULZ - info on breaker plate
THANX for the photos . It is a BIRD DIST (TACH)?
I would like to see how the COND is mounted to the outside of the housing.

Re: KULTULZ - info on breaker plate
I had one of those DynaFlight dual point breaker plates on my 57 Ford. I mounted the condenser on one of the vacuum advance screws. Worked fine. I ran it until I converted the ignition system to a Duraspark system.

What I am interested in is seeing how the OEM install was and if it took a special DIST HSG or the regular housing just received a different machining protocol. My interests are more pure stock than modification(s).

It's a Phase 1 factory supercharged D/F code car, 1 of 65 made. OEM condenser location? It was on the outside of the dist housing, likely using one of the existing screws. I'm waiting for more photos. |

If you have a chance, see if he can give the DATE CODE off the DIST and also the DIST HSG CASTING ID NO (the Basic Part Number is 12133). The DATE CODE will be stamped just under the DIST ID NO.

Photo 1. The B7A-12151-_ part number printed on the box ends with a letter "A". The part number printed on the paper wrapper ends with a letter "B". Quote:
upper left, "MADE IN U.S.A." across the bottom: "NEW DEPARTURE". (a 'replacement parts' mfr?) upper right: "900600" or "009006". The metal finish is a silver color, not black as I'd expect based on seeing a few other oem '57 points plates. When zoomed in on the original photo... the left side of the plate appears as if it may have been modified from original. The quality of the metal work isn't the same as on the right side, and there looks to be an extra screw hole left over from the original condenser location. I suspect it's a modified aftermarket part placed in a original box (and sold for the higher price). Photo 2. An F-code Tach drive distributor. The part number FEJ-12127-D is correct for a S/C '57 T-Bird. The condenser is fastened underneath with a small screw on the right side. There is an oval Fomoco logo on the condenser. . "New Departure Bearings" has been in business since 1889 and is actually the oldest division of General Motors. "New Departure" is a quality bearing manufacturing conglomerate. DD

The plate looks correct (to me anyways). FORD may have had more than one vendor supplying the plate(s). It may be that the B - PLATE VENDOR used FORD ENGINEERING DRAWINGS to modify the original SGL PLATE stamping and machining. The A - PLATE with VENDOR ID STAMPING is Shown below - OK, I appreciate all the effort and now am comfortable if I ever come across this in the real world.
