Water temperature/ oil pressure
In my collection of stuff, I have a new reproduction Rexco water temperature gage as well as a reproduction 0 to 10 PSI Rexco oil pressure gage.
The water temperature gage has the short piece of powder coated pipe with the threaded boss for the sending unit. But, where do I run the cable, so it doesn't interfere with anything? Where should it go through the firewall? Is the oil pressure gage worth installing? Where would that tube go through the firewall? |

Re: Water temperature/ oil pressure
Where/how you would route your cables really depends on where you intend on mounting the gauges.

Re: Water temperature/ oil pressure
consider using woven wire harness covering to run the tubing thru. I haven't taken the temp gage line loose yet to do this, but it would be an easy thing to do at initial install, and same thing for any accessory wires to make install look better.
I do have the temp gage located under the 30-31 instrument panel and the routing is thru the junction box hole. Bob |

Re: Water temperature/ oil pressure
The water sensor should connect to the coolant return side of the radiator. There are a couple of options. One is a hard pipe that you splice into the radiator hose an the other is a replaceable water outlet that is threaded to accept the sending unit.
You referenced a short powder coated pipe for temperature sensor. There should be a non-removable capillary tube (attached to the gauge) with pipe threads that connects the gauge to the water outlet. I'm wondering if the pipe you referenced isn't an adapter for the water outlet? The oil pressure connector should go to a threaded opening about midway on the right side of the block - Just below the carb. There's a plug that opens into the oil gallery. The original plug required a straight slot screwdriver to remove and then screw your oil line in its place. To prevent making any new holes in the firewall, most folks route the lines through the floorboard by the steering column.

Re: Water temperature/ oil pressure
That'll play - Be mindful not to crimp the capillary tube when running it through the ignition cable clamp.

Re: Water temperature/ oil pressure
I have some woven loom covering that I have used for enclosing tail light cross over wire on the huckster.
The covering looks more like the loom covering from the generator to the junction box in the #8 post., just smaller diameter. that looks authentic enough for me. Ran across it at a swap years ago. Guess vintage in sacramento has that for fabricating their wire harnesses. However, the split covering mentioned in #8 Looks like it would do just fine. Re: Water temperature/ oil pressure
I used the single mount to the 30-31 dash panel and ran the capillary tube through the junction box, zip tied it to the wire to the generator and through the clamp then up to the water outlet where the sensor is installed. Now I need to figure out where to hook up the light to , so it is not on all the time. Finding a switched power source is difficult.
