Default Digital caliper recommendations

I find myself in need of a some accurate measurements and I want to up grade my $9.95 non digital caliper.
I see on Amazon digital calipers in all price ranges but it’s hard to judge quality based solely on price.
From your experience, can any of you recommend a good quality reasonably priced (under $50) digital caliper. I’m thinking 6 - 8 inches?

How accurate are you trying to measure? A caliper may not be the best tool for the job. If you are trying to measure to +/- 0.001 of an inch, a micrometer may be a better choice.

Performance Tool W80152
$20 worth of complete accuracy
It's the exact one that HF sells, without the Performance Tool logo.

I have purchased used Mitutoyo calipers in the past for fair prices well below the msrp. I personally would rather go that route than buying any new cheap harbor freight or other Chinese tool used for accurate measurements. I’ve also had good luck with Fowler which is cheaper in price than Mitutoyo. I also like Brown & Sharpe as well as Starrett.

I have a good quality Mitutoyo digital dial caliper I bought back in the late '70's. used almost every day since then, and still as accurate as when I bought it

I have a few Vernier Calipers that I use. I keep one in the garage, one in the workshop, and one in the house. As long as they are not abused, and zeroed before use, they all give me accurate results. One of them is from Harbor Freight which has inch and metric settings which comes in handy when needed. For the money, the Harbor Freight Vernier Caliper is hard to beat.

I needed a digital caliper for one-time use when I was in Florida this winter, so I bought he cheapest one I could find on Amazon. I think it was $7.99. It worked fine and when I measured a known precision piece, it was dead on.

From this and other posts here, it looks like all of the manufacturers have this pretty well nailed down.

Thanks for all the information.
I bought a mid priced Pittsburgh model 63711 from harbor freight.
Has a good feel and came fully charged and included an extra battery!

I'm sure there are a lot of good quality and inexpensive ones . . . but for the amount of times I have used mine, I've sure liked my Mitutoyo.

Bored&Stroked "X2". You are buying them for a reason and that reason is for dead on accuracy, consistency, day in and day out. FOR the difference in price, where we talking 1000's of dollars, it'd be one thing but for the cost.....Mitutoyo, Starret, Brown & Sharpe, SPI. would be my choice
