Flathead to Lasalle transmission adapter bellhousing
Flathead ford to LaSalle offenhauser bellhousing that uses the flathead ford clutch fork.
I have researched it and cant find any for sale or ones that have actually sold. I have found wanted ads for them. In other posts it pretty much says rare, hard to find and expensive. Anyone know of any that sold or what the realistic number is. |

Re: Flathead to Lasalle transmission adapter bellhousing
Back in the late 50's we made them from a 2" thick piece of aluminum for the old "Y" blocks. I realize that doesn't answer your question, but might give you another avenue to try, as the bell housings are similar.

Re: Flathead to Lasalle transmission adapter bellhousing
Tough to determine how to break that down, would that make the bellhousing worth $500 to 900 ? Seems like there are still more transmissions around then the bellhousing. Plenty of stock castiron Cadillac and 50 olds bellhousings. I see even new aluminum 50 olds bellhousings

Re: Flathead to Lasalle transmission adapter bellhousing
What is the advantage to a LaSalle transmission? Takes more HP? Old style hot rod?

Re: Flathead to Lasalle transmission adapter bellhousing
From what I understand and know back in the day(1950's) the guys running the Olds,Pontiac's and Caddy's would blow their early Ford trans with that HP the overheads produced and especially banging second. The La Salle was a much stronger transmission. In about '63 I had a good friend with a deuce tudor running a roller cam'd Pontiac .It had a La Salle trans and Olds rear. The Olds rear had welded spider gears so in effect is was a locked rear end.Tight turns was a problem as both wheels turned together.Once in a while on Sat nite Drive-In cruises(like Oscars in Long Beach,CA)he would get challenged.Off we went to Terminal Island (Long Beach,CA) and find a spot to race.He never lost and didn't blow the La Salle trans either.Only thing is he couldn't power shift like you can with a T10 4sp.

Re: Flathead to Lasalle transmission adapter bellhousing
You might consider modifying an adapter for another transmission. One possibility is the Offenhauser adapter number 3648, early Ford to Buick Roadmaster. It is basically the same as the adapter for the Cad LaSalle trans with a different trans bolt pattern. However, I have no idea if it can be redrilled for the Cad LaSalle. The Buick adapter may be a little more plentiful and likely much cheaper.

Re: Flathead to Lasalle transmission adapter bellhousing
Would have to want one bad for that price. There are much better transmissions to use, so it would only be for the nostalgia of it.

Re: Flathead to Lasalle transmission adapter bellhousing
Back in the late 50's and early 60's, there was a company in Bridgeport CT that mad new shift levers and shear pins for the Cad La Sale transmissions. He also mad the 2" adapters for the Ford Y block engines. Theses could be modified for the Hogs head Flathead s The cad trans had a long input shaft. Also the buick trand would bolt up the chevy bell housing with just a few mods. Brings back fond memories.

Re: Flathead to Lasalle transmission adapter bellhousing
$3800 is about $2000 high. I think from the limited info i found $500 to 750 is the range for the bellhousing and $1000 for a good 37 transmission. Side shift LaSalle $150

Re: Flathead to Lasalle transmission adapter bellhousing
Better gearing and stronger unit.
I have a side shift LaSalle, always thought it'd be a neat setup for a 3 on the tree car. |
