I tried to sell my Cadillac club magazines once. 1) I could not even get an offer. 2) You would think I was giving away every ones SSN's. Lets just say the screamin' began.

I think I may have picked up the bundle and put them in the trash can.

Unless you market them very specifically to grab a very small audience's attention they aren't worth much at all. Only the earliest (1950's) era mags are worth more than a few bucks.

Donating them is hard as well.

i have tried selling them for years with no luck, I even tried donating them to Libraires and they wont take them must be a hardback for them to take them.

I have maintained our club's library consisting of all the MARC & MAFCA magazines, How To books & restoration videos on VCR & disc since the 80's. Nobody has checked them out for the last 20 years. It's even on wheels to roll to each meeting in my '28 roadster pickup. Probably going to make a great bonfire someday.

You could donate them to a high school Model A Club. They are starting to emerge. The Pasadena High School Model A club would love to have them.

About five years ago, I sold my complete set of Restorer magazines including the slip cover boxes purchased from MAFCA, for $300. I paid more than that for the slip covers! The guy who bought them was the only response that I had after advertising them for sale for over 3 years. AND, since I was traveling and going somewhat near where he lives, we agreed to meet at an exit near him on the Interstate highway. So, there was no shipping charge. I just feel lucky to have sold them to someone who really wanted them.

The Flash Drive for the first 50 years of The Restorer, is well worth it I recommend buying MAFCA's I like it

The local library has a cart with their discarded books on it. Sometimes people add their own discards- no one seems to mind. Next to it is a crate for discarded magazines. People add their own. Many issues of AARP and other free pub's stacked up and a handwritten note appeared about a year ago, something like "This is not a wastebasket", and things improved. Issues of AACA's (general antique car magazine, lots of pics, few ads) disappear in an afternoon. "Business Machine Horizons", and "Stu's Market", don't. Test the waters, ask the librarians, maybe your area needs this? Would anyone like some nice "Land Rover News" or "Moss Motoring" (general english cars) (both hi-volume, heavy,no shipping)

I have some Restorer, and some ModelA News. Does MARC sell that format too?

I have tons of plastic bins I'd like to free up. I'd only like to keep a handful of them.

I have tried selling them no luck tried donating to the library they will only take hard back books, tried giving them to high school shop classes no luck.

We just sold an 8 inch mixed pile of them for $5 at Hershey. The buyer was new to the hobby and was trying to collect and read all of them.

I have sold a lot of magazines over the last 5 years or so. I had a personal collection as well as well over 500 from family estates.

The Secrets Magazine put out by Charlie Yapp has good resale, lots of people out there use it because it contains a lot of stuff just not found on line.

In general, unless it’s a unique issue, they are hard to sell. I’ve found they sell best in lots, by year, singles or damaged ones really don’t sell. Even in lots they are only a few dollars and hardly worth the effort.

Ive given away far more than I’ve sold. Last batch was given to the local chapter of the AACA. I also gave away 20 years worth of the EFV8CA magazines with a car I sold.

When I joined Alamo As about 18 months ago two kind members offered me their collections. Some issues date back to the 1970s. I’ve been poring over them ever since. The technical articles are particularly interesting.
So, maybe ask new members in your own club?

In the last 5+ years I have sold at least 700 auto magazines and thought I would post my experience of what sells and what should be left in your recycler. With exception, most sell best in volume or complete years. Individual issues are tough unless has something unique. Keep in mind this is after shipping.

Secrets Magazine, aka “Secrets of Speed” produced by Charlie Yapp. $3-$5 Per issue.
F.A.S.T. Aka “Ford A Speed Technology” $1-$2 per issue.
V8 Times from Early V8 Club of America. $.25 Cents per issue
Vintage Ford from Model T Club of America. .25-.$50 Cents per issue
Model T Times from Model T Club International. ~ .$25 cents per issue
Model A News from Model A Restore Club, on a good day, .25 cents an issue.
Horseless Carriage Gazette. Pre 1970, $.25 per issue, post 1970 resale plummets.
Hot Rod, pre 1970-1980 Maybe $.50 cents, post 1980 recycle
National Falcon, from Falcon Club of America. Early issues $.10 per issue in volume, by year. Post 2020, is zero resale.
Generator $ Distributor, from Vintage Chevrolet Club of America. .$25 an issue on volume, complete years.

There are exceptions and Your experience may differ but Believe it or not, there are still folks that collect library’s of magazines. When you sell, list by year, volume and issue. Enjoy!

Old people who are hoarders will have magazines, newspapers, and every conceivable item stacked up on all horizontal surfaces. Eventually there are only narrow paths through the piles. At some point the even the paths get blocked and the old person dies. At that point the only solution is a skip loader and dump truck.

I like the idea of leaving the old car magazines in reception areas. Cut your address out first.

I’m new to the hobby with my first model A and find the magazines a wealth of knowledge and help. I had a couple on this site donate theirs to me and am forever grateful. Since many were missing , I’m always looking for more, both the Model A news and Restorer. I travel between western Pennsylvania and Michigan thru Ohio. If anyone has some that they want to get rid of, I’d love to take them off your hands.

Easier to buy all the past issues in PDF on a memory stick. I've waited on buying the Restorer because it's only the first 50 years and they are now 15+ years behind. I volunteered to scan the rest a year ago and was told they are being done but I doubt that very much since you're only talking about 60 magazines - I'd have trouble stretching that task out past 30 days.....

I wish the clubs would offer membership with out the magazines. I have seen the same
stuff hashed over and over for the past 50+ years.

A emailed news letter would be fine, it would cut down on the clutter and the cost of joining. I have so many different cars it would cost me over $500 a year just to be in every club. I rotate my memberships during the years to catch up on the happenings.

I had magazines back to the 1950s that came with a Model A that I bought.

the 50s and 60s sold.
the rest I gave away.

now when I get a year or 2 worth of Model A news, I place a classified ad here and someone eventually pays the postage to get them.

I have kept a small number that have one of my cars or friends' cars featured.

Hemmings Classic back issues go quick on CraigsList or FB Marketplace.

I was willing to pay the regular membership price without the magazine but when investigating, they had never heard of that. They said they would get back to me but I haven't heard anything since.
Let's save the trees along with the fuel to deliver them. Emails work just fine.
