Re: Cost of a new '32 BB
The March 31, 1932 introduction day retail price of a 131 1/2" drive-away was $470 and $500 for a 157" drive-away. The body was extra cost.

Was drive-away meaning cab and chassis?

Re: Cost of a new '32 BB
A full cab was not included in those prices. Add $65 for an open cab and $90 for a closed cab. As with the drive-away prices, these were U.S. prices on intro day.

"Drive-away" implies you could, well...drive it away. So what did you get? This is a body-less AA. Was the BB similar? |

Re: Cost of a new '32 BB
I have a cowl that I think must have been on a 32 BB drive away, and removed for a custom body. Basically an RPU cowl, but missing the windshield mounting holes. It’s absolutely gorgeous, with shiny black paint and no damage. Was probably tucked safely in some back room for the last 90 years.

They show up from time to time. I had one in the distant past.

Re: Cost of a new '32 BB
A truck drive away chassis is a complete running chassis with complete fuel system. The attached images are Model 51 trucks but very much like the 1932-34 BB chassis. One version has no windshield and another version has a windshield (including the frame, glass and wiper).
For these truck chassis, it's possible to sit on the gas tank and "drive away". Off they went to get a custom body installed.

Re: Cost of a new '32 BB
It’s back in an attic tucked away good and dry. I bought it from a Minnesotan. If I ever get the gumption to build a 32 RPU I will use my other nice cowl first. I save the NOS parts for “some day”.

Re: Cost of a new '32 BB
alchemy,
Does your NOS cowl have a patent plate riveted to it with four drive rivets? If so, are all the numbers visible?

Re: Cost of a new '32 BB
My cowl didn’t come with a firewall, and no plate on it elsewhere.

Re: Cost of a new '32 BB
Like a Model T, '32 firewalls were not an integral part of the body, but rather a separate component. U.S.-only patent plates were attached to the firewall. Canadian-produced bodies had no patent plates, but the four holes in the firewall were there anyway (just in case?), at least through the '34 model year.

Re: Cost of a new '32 BB
Of course, my error. I forgot about the separate firewall on the '32's. I keep relearning things all the time.
