Default '39 Top load Transmission clutch won't depress

I just put the clutch and trans on my 292 y-block with a Craiger bell housing. Everything went together smoothly but once I got it into the chassis and hooked up the linkage it is not depressing the 3 clutch arms. I can see through the inspection hole that the throw out bearing slides ahead but when it comes into contact with the 3 arms movement is stopped. I pushed the clutch pedal in with my leg but stopped when I felt I was going to break something.

Thought?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Z

What chassis, what linkage, what clutch, where are the pictures, stock parts, modified parts, gyp chinese parts---etc

It's hard to give advice on non stock modifications without knowing all the modifications and parts used

You could remove the linage and try to operate it by hand 39 lever or 40 style shaft.

It might be something to do with the centrifugal weights fouling the bellhousing adaptor. If it is an 11" clutch or a 10", this could be the problem. At least it needs eliminating first if it is something else.

Mart.

The y block has a smaller shaft and the big throw-out bearing maybe hitting the pressure plate.

The top loaders all have the 1 3/8" 10-spline transmission input shaft that uses the big throw out as previously mentioned. Those big throw outs don't play well with the smaller trans input design clutch covers. We definitely need to know what clutch & pressure plate are installed. Long type, Borg & Beck, disc type & diameter, etc.

Y block truck has the same 1-3/8 input and a guess if your putting this in a early ford you have the truck timing cover and oil pan on the motor with a hurst motor mount?

With the pedal linkage disconnected the pedal moves nicely with the return spring tension. Pushing the lever on the trans brings the throw out bearing up to the 3 clutch arms but that is where it stops.

Yes, the Y-block is a truck for the oil pan and fan clearance.

I will try to get some pictures of the clutch tomorrw.

Thanks for the help thus far.

Opened the trans back up and just the spring on the throwout was caught. Reinstalled and working ? Always the little things that cause setbacks.

Thanks again for the responses.
