Default 3/16 or 1/4 brake lines with 40 Lincoln Brakes

I got a pair of 1940 Lincoln front brakes and my roadster is already plumbed with 3/16 line. Will this be okay or do I need to go up to 1/4in line?

As always, thank you for the help from everyone here on Ford Barn.

Your brakes won't know the difference......3/16" is fine. Size only comes into play with wheel cylinder and master cylinder diameters. DD

Lincoln used 1/4" lines. Double flare them and the flare will fit the connector seat that goes in the rear wheel cylinder and the front hoses.

You can also use adapters that go from 1/4" inverted flare to 3/16 inverted flare. Most automotive stores have them. If you use F-100 hoses they will go into the Lincoln cylinders and are 3/16' on the hard line end.

While the end application pressure will end up the same with either 3/16" or 1/4" lines; there is flow to consider. The early systems with large bore masters and wheel cylinders
sometimes can be "sluggish" in application and release if plumbed with small lines. Look how they were plumbed originally, the engineers used the larger lines for a reason.

Use the 3/16 line if you already have them and the adapters . You won't know the difference, It works.

brake fluid doesn't know the size of the lines.
