Default What is this screw in the center main for?

Can anyone tell me what this screw is in the middle of the center main bearing? The front and rear mains to not have one.

Model B block.

thanks,
Todd

Could it be some means of tightening the center main without removing the cap? I see lots of funky accessory stuff for Model Ts but haven't seen it on Model As. Have you removed the center main and seen if the babbitt is tight in the cap?

That is a plug to remedy a cap that was used in a motor with full pressure at some time. I find these in A's lots but not so much in B's since the B has light pressure to the mains to begin with. This was done probably to supplement the flow to the center main to prevent failure. In a B this is probably a wasted effort.

I pretty sure that it's there just in case the rear main doesn't leak. You know... just to keep it authentic and all
