8RT starter plate
Can anyone please tell me the difference between an 8ba and an 8rt starter plate. I bought one on evelbay, it was advertised as an 8ba F1F2 starter plate. After trying it ,I discovered that their is a strengthing ridge that is keeping it from going on all the way. Is that the way it should be?
Thanks Mike |

Re: 8RT starter plate
Nope. Somebody sold you a bill of goods. An "8BA F1/F2" starter plate is a contradiction in terms.. Somewhere on the internet (it used to be on the old "Flathead Tips" site), there is a definitive write up (with pictures) on these. If you can't find it, I'm sure someone here has it at the tips of their fingers.

Re: 8RT starter plate
I can take a picture of an 8RT set up if that helps.

Re: 8RT starter plate
Trucks had a "dust shield" at the back of the block, using the two oil pan bolts that straddle the crank oil seal. To accommodate that the starter plate was dished to the rear a small amount. See pics.

Re: 8RT starter plate
Thanks for the picture Ross F-1. Transbytip contacted me and has set me up with flywheel and 8rt starter plate. I want to thank everyone for all the help, I'd be lost without all your help. Mike

I'm glad someone downloaded that, now that the Techno Source is DOA!

Re: 8RT starter plate
The 8BA plate has an angled starter mount and will not interchange with an 8RT plate as it is flat or parallel to the plate surface.

Re: 8RT starter plate
Actually the Techno site itself is still up at this time. just type flathead techno-site into your search eng. it will come up. I inquired several times before the other flathead site disappeared, if some one with good computer skills could put all that info on a flash drive ( I think that is what they are called ). I am sure that there would be plenty of people willing to purchase one at a reasonable price. I know I would. I would do it myself, but do not know enough to do it.

Re: 8RT starter plate
Bob, I'm an old fart, don't have a smart phone and don't want one. I do wish I had the knowledge to post pictures. I have a small camera, tried, but have given up. Maybe I can get my grandson to help me. It's hell getting old. Based on the pdf I have an 8ba starter plate and an 8rt engine bellhousing. I believe "transbytip" who is a member has the parts I need. Again Thank You everyone for your help. I will post when I receive the 8rt starter plate, 8ba flywheel and install it. Mike
