Intake identification
Looking to see if anyone knows anything about this intake, guy has it for sale says its for a Merc flathead, 1948? Would it fit a 8ba or even a ford block?
Never heard of the brand before Almquist? |

Re: Intake identification
It will also fit 48 and earlier. Almquist was a well known name in the their day.

Re: Intake identification
Thanks for the reply, I wasn't sure on how to identify what would be a merc intake over a ford one. Thank you though.

Re: Intake identification
My thinking was that that a high performance intake doesn't match up well the latter full vacuum advance dist. I would think anyone interested in the intake manifold would also upgrade the distributor, but just guessing.

Re: Intake identification
I agree with you on the need for an upgraded distributor for dual carbs. All in all, I think there would be better choices for an 8BA manifold. Compromises are, after all compromises. As to Ford or Mercury, the only truly Mercury manifolds are the 4 bolt factory ones for the later 4" stroke engines.

Re: Intake identification
One hole would be for oil fill and the other for the road draft tube. The road draft tube would need some kind of baffle.

Re: Intake identification
You have to understand that this is an economy move by the manufacture. Offy does the same thing with several of it's intakes. They make one casting, then machine it for the application. In this case it was not ment for the 49-53 engine. I use one of the Offy 4bl intakes on an 8BA block, using the crankcase boss for the PVC fitting. I put oil in the old fuelpump stand. I run an electric fuel pump, but I see no reason you couldn't use a stock on with some modification.

Re: Intake identification
New Navarro intakes are made like that. Fit early or late. Need machining.
