Led flasher in '40 ford
Guys, I have a problem with my led flasher all lights will flash when motor not running. With motor running the lights will flash very fast or some time not at all just light up. Anyone had this problem. I have a 12 volt system with the correct led flasher that came with the taillight and park lights for 1940 ford. Thanks for all your help. Have a nice day.

Re: Led flasher in '40 ford
I have the same problem with the exact set up. I haven't tried to fix yet but my thoughs are that our cars have a ton of EMF. Ignition and charging systems. Ground being good because the lights blink normal with car not running. I want to try a condenser ie capacitor at the flash can unit. All I will try is a old points condenser and see if it works. Any othe thoughts controlling EMF would be appriciated.

Re: Led flasher in '40 ford
Just in case there is a question as to what EMF is, here goes..... I say this because I haven't heard that term used since high school physics back when Elvis was king.
Electromotive force is defined as the electric pressure that makes a current flow in a circuit. An example of electromotive force is voltage generated by a battery. EMF is measured in VOLTS. Last edited by 19Fordy; 06-08-2014 at 04:13 PM. |

Re: Led flasher in '40 ford
I had a cheap electronic LED flasher on my model A. It never worked well and only lasted a few months. I went to an auto parts store and in the electrical catalog I found aheavy duty large 12V truck flasher. It is a small cube and will flash any type of load and I do not think it is voltage sensitive. It was expensive $20 or so but it has worked for several years.

Re: Led flasher in '40 ford
I have fixed my LED flasher problem. I ordered a FL3- red: 3 pin red American Flasher from Superbrightleds.com plugged it in every led light flashed right. Don't buy anything made in China. The flasher from Bob Drake will not work or anything else he selled made in China.
