Default 36 ford flathead rear main seal?

My mechanic is asking what is used for the rear main seal . It doesnt look like there is a place for one. Not even a rope seal.

No rear main seal in an original '36 flathead engine. They use what is called a "slinger"...
Ford Part # 40-6310...

The upper part in the block is 18-6335. https://reds-vintage-parts.com/store...t-18-6335-used

Petes photo is of the front slinger, goes at front of crankshaft between timing gear and front pulley...
The 18-6335 was superseded with 78-6335 which will work better with your 'double slinger crankshaft.

Yes...superseded with 78-6335 as I posted above. Actually, either the 18 prefix or the 78 prefix can be used, but the 78 prefix gives better control.
